At the AIP's website, right at the top before the main text is the hateful statement from Joe Vogler, founder of the separatist party saying: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Yikes! Reverend Jeremiah Wright never said that!

There is video of Palin addressing the Alaskan Independence Party, appearing to support them by wishing them luck on their convention and not criticizing their anti-American views in any way.

Palin says the AIP plays an "important part" in Alaska's politics. The VP nominee also says part of her administration's focus matches at least one goal of the AIP. In the video, Palin says her administration is focused on "reigning in government growth so individual liberty and opportunity can expand. I know you agree with that."

As if that weren't enough the co-chair of the Alaskan Independence Party, Dexter Clark, was caught on video during the AIP's convention held in Tennessee (reportedly last year) confirming that Palin was a member of the party before she became mayor.

Ouch. Clark says Palin is "pretty well sympathetic because of her former membership". He also says Palin joined the republican party to essentially get ahead but had all kinds of problems with their ethics.

Clark also is on video advocating the infiltration of other political parties (like the republican and the Democratic parties) in order to get their agenda accomplished.

Of course the McCain campaign and Palin supporters will try to explain this away by saying he must have been mistaken. That's where the media is SUPPOSED to come in asking tough questions about this issue. We'll see if they continue to roll over.

According to the AIP's website, it has almost 18,000 registered voters while declaring itself to be a viable 3rd party and not a "fringe" party.

In the Q & A section of the site, it also declares a "return to territorial status, all the way to complete independence and nationhood status for Alaska". In other words, they don't want Alaska to be under control of the American government like every other state in the Union.

Remember those chants of 'drill baby drill' echoed throughout the republican national convention? The AIP says it will use revenue from their oil and other natural resources to replace whatever monies they currently get from the federal government if they manage to separate from the rest of America.

The Alaskan Independence Party believes the vote for Alaska's statehood was "invalid because the people were not presented with the range of options available to them".  They also accuse the Feds of breaking the contract for statehood "on numerous occasions in over a dozen serious and substantial instances."

We got weeks and weeks Rev. Wright's rants taking over the public dialog during the Democratic primary. Every republican who could get air time and an online writing gig railed against Wright, linking his words to Obama despite Obama's repudiation of Wright's words.

Can you imagine the republican media fury if Michelle Obama was a member or linked to a political party with the goal of separating itself from America??

Nobody has, as of yet, released any video or press statements of Sarah Palin condemning and repudiating the anti-American, separatist views of the Alaskan Independence Party.

To the contrary and as the video above shows, she actually addressed the Party's convention! She's only been governor for 21 months so the video itself is rather recent. There is no way Palin could not have known about the AIP's controversial views.

Will this become a legitimate issue? That depends on the laziness of the broadcast media.
