(whisperDISPATCH) - The Massachusetts state legislature has handed a back hand slap to those want to ban gay marriage. Reportedly, the legislature's decision concluded a three year campaign by interested parties to overturn the state's legalization of gay marriage.

The Boston Herald is reporting that the ban was defeated in a roll-call vote of both houses by 5 votes.

The legislature's decision effectively stops the {tag gay} marriage ban option from making it to the 2008 voting ballot.

If you remember, in previous elections, Republicans got their base out to vote by adding wedge issue amendments, like {tag gay marriage}, to ballads in key states.

I say gay people deserve to right to be married and miserable just like the rest of us. Why spare them the fights over money, fights over the kids, community property disputes and pre-nup battles.

Anybody, and I do mean anybody, who has the guts to be married deserves the right to do so.
