A devastating new ad featuring Philip Butler, a fellow P.O.W. with Sen. John McCain, has been released by Brave New PAC today.

In the ad, 70 year old Butler says as a former P.O.W. he's going to "tell it like it is" when it comes to McCain. Butler says being a P.O.W. is "not a good prerequisite for being President of the United States."

Butler says McCain was a well-known hothead, calling McCain "volatile" and likening the 72 year old to a Roman candle.

The independent group Brave New Films and Democracy for America funded the ad and goes right at what is supposed to be McCain's strength. The ad is part of a longer video project as you can see below:

In the longer video, Butler says he was a P.O.W. for two and a half years before McCain came. In the longer video, Butler talks about his experience with McCain and, specifically, talks about that infamous temper:
The world is such a dangerous place and he has shown himself already to be bellicose with regard to making other wars in other places -- in Iraq and threatening Iran. John McCain is not somebody that I would like to see with his finger near the red button.
Ouch!

Butler goes on to criticize the way in which McCain has flip-flopped on a number of issues.  He says, "It has been very disappointing to watch him pander to his various political bases and change his stances on things."

"I knew him many years ago. John was very apathetic about religion. Now all of a sudden he's become an evangelical so that he can bring in that base," Butler admitted.

Butler says the McCain running now is not the McCain he thought he knew.

This may be the first in a string of devastating new ads from independent groups (aka 527s) who are now jumping into the political fight.
