Obama spoke yesterday about the way the McCain campaign has changed their entire message to "change" at the last minute without having the real bona fides to do so. He likened the McCain campaign's re-branding as putting lipstick on a pig.
Some say the McCain campaign sought to take attention off George Bush's announcement of troop withdrawals from Iraq and distract attention from the half-dozen other scandals currently swirling around Sarah Palin.
They created a faux controversy over whether Obama was referring to Palin herself when saying 'lipstick on a pig'. Not even Elisabeth Hasselbeck defended the republicans in this fake controversy this morning on 'The View'.
Obama blasted the criticism saying, "What their campaign has done this morning is the same game that has made people sick and tired of politics in this country."
"I'm talking about John McCain's economic policy. Suddenly they say you must be talking about the Gov of Alaska," Obama railed as the crowd laughed.
VIDEO:
"Enough! I don't care what they say about me, but I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and Swift-boat politics. Enough is enough!" the Democratic presidential candidate continued.
Obama said the McCain campaign would much rather have chatter about "phony and foolish diversions than about the future".
He also called this controversy "catnip for the news media" and says something similar happens every election cycle.
Listing a number of real issues -- like having two on-going wars, the lagging educational system and the lack of care for our wounded troops -- Obama says the American public are the ones who end up losing when these made-up controversies take over.
"These are serious times and they call for a serious debate about where we will take the nation," Obama continued.
He also again linked John McCain to George Bush's last eight years saying, "John McCain has supported these policies for the last eight years. He believes in them. When you scratch the surface, there's not a dime's worth of difference between what he's offering and what we've already gotten."
Obama says about McCain's policies, "The only change you're gonna get are some pennies in your pocket."
"Spare me the phony outrage," Obama told the crowd in Virginia. "Spare me the phony talk about change. We have real problems in this country right now."
He continued to rail against the way in which the McCain campaign is trying to turn the public's attention from the issues. He says, "The American people are looking to us for answers. Not distractions. Not diversions. Not manipulations. They want real answers to the real problems we are facing."
Maybe crybaby Democrats who have begun wringing their hands over whether Obama can handle himself in a fight should go sit-down, shut-up and pop an anti-depressant.
Obama figured out how to beat the most formidable woman in politics right now when he won the Democratic nomination. And Clinton is a thousand times more qualified to do ANYTHING in comparison to Palin. He, too, will figure out how to run against the McCain-Palin ticket.
