Hot damn! Dell is now shipping PCs with the Linux operating system installed.
tgDaily is reporting that the gigantic PC maker will provide hardware support but users will be on their own as far as getting software support. Well, if you’re buying a PC with the Linux operating system, you should be able to figure out how to get a desired software to work with it.Word is that even Dell ran into a few snags trying to configure the new operating system because the default installion of Ubuntu wasn’t exactly as easy as intalling, oh, say, WindowsXP or something.
Those expecting headache-less operation should be prepared. According to tgDaily, “Driver issues have frequently cropped up…”. That ain’t news, though. Heck, ‘driver issues’ frequently pop up on dang near every PC I’ve owned running the latest Microsoft operating system!
Also providing another hurdle is getting the operating system to play nice with multimedia codes for playing audio and video.
Anyway, Dell is said to be researching for better solutions to this problem in the upcoming months. Check out Dell’s website for more info about Ubuntu Linux.
