There was supposedly all this talk about how the two of them have worked together over the years. It was a lovefest, according to some attendees of the Conference. Here's a quote from Miller's article:
Jobs said Gates built the first software company in the industry, and was focused on software before anyone else.
Gates said that Jobs saw back in 1977 the dream of a mass market machine, and talked about how Apple bet the company on the Macintosh, and talked about how Jobs has pursued the goals of building new devices “with taste and elegance.”
Jobs pointed out that each of them was lucky to have great partners and to have attracted great people.
Gag me with a spoon! :P To be honest, some people
wanted to see the two of them go at it like Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer 's John Markoff is reporting that "neither
man was willing to say harsh things about the other" at the Conference though.
In case
you haven't noticed, Jobs (Apple) and Gates (Microsoft) have been business rivals since forever.
However, they have found themselves on the same team over the years as well.
Obviously the
market share title goes to Gates. I say this as I'm typing up this report on my PC laptop running
Windows XP, mind you.
There were about 600 tech executives in attendance at the conference
sponsored by the Wall Street Journal.
